Disc Jockey's provide multiple services within their position. These services are high quality sound systems, lighting equipment, wireless microphones, ability to function as an MC as well as a DJ, a fun personality, and more. These services are available for both wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions. Preparation is key for us. The earlier, the better when preparing for your big day!
There is more to the sound system than the speakers, but if anything, those need to be at optimal performance. High quality sound at weddings gets everyone’s attention. Without it, music and announcements don’t happen, nor will anyone hear the MC. Usually these sound systems include mixers, computers, tables, turntables, headphones, microphones, power amplifiers, cords, and whatever else is necessary depending on the venue. Ideally he or she manages the equipment well so that it is not in the way of guests or in a place where it can be damaged. Some parts of the sound system can go behind the scenes, but most of it will need to be in the area designated for the DJ.
Lighting equipment is also a possible service. A disc jockey may bring this along with the sound system if that is in the contract. Stage lights on a stand and/or T-bar fixtures are a great addition to some set ups, especially as the event goes into the evening. These can be placed in the disc jockey’s area so that he or she can manage them while managing the sound at the same time. It is easier to have all of this in one area. LED lighting with color options is popular at many receptions, which is why DJs commonly offer these. If available, the speakers and computers with colorful lights built in!
Wireless microphones are an integral part of the sound system. It must be wireless so it can be carried around the dance floor without anyone getting tangled in a cord or tripping. The DJ will need to pass this mic to speakers as well as use it himself/herself. This is even more important if the event needs an MC, since an MC needs to move around more to keep people engaged.
Ability to function as an MC is unofficially tied into the job requirements of a disc jockey. Guests like having someone to make announcements throughout the event. They also like an entertaining character who tells jokes and engages everyone. MCs also do things like encourage guests to join in on the dancing. An MC helps make events fun.
A fun personality is a much appreciated extra. Most DJs and MCs certainly know how to liven things up, but some are kind of laid-back. Meeting during the planning stages of the wedding will be a chance to get a feel for their style and personality. A very extroverted disc jockey entertains the guests easily while enjoying playing the role of an MC at the same time.
